Music from Stillwater DOES Exist

You’ve probably watched Almost Famous. If you haven’t, watch it. The main band that is toured with, Stillwater, was actually a fictional band. However, if you truly want to rock out to Fever Dog, you can! Yes, that’s right, Stillwater music is available on LimeWire. Actually, it is available on the Almost Famous: Untitled Bootleg Cut if you want to buy that. There are 6 songs in total, but the best one is easily Fever Dog.

In reality, the music was written by Peter Frampton, Cameron Crowe and Nancy Wilson, and performed by Frampton (and I think Eddie Vedder), so you’ll probably like it.

I’m surprised this isn’t talked about much more, but it is really cool that they made some songs for the movie. Enjoy Fever Dog.

One of Rock’s First: Louie, Louie

Even if this song weren’t in Animal House, it’d still be one of the greatest songs of early rock and roll. I mean, there are supposedly over 1,500 different recordings of this song. It first started being recorded in 1955! However, most likely your favorite recording is the 1963 one by The Kingsmen. And no, the lyrics aren’t dirty, unless you want them to be (honestly, they can’t be understood).

This song was actually recorded in one take. The band was just warming up, but for some reason this ended up being the final version. It was also investigated by the FBI for 31-months because of complaints that it was dirty, but finally they said that the words could not be interpreted.

Whatever the backstory is though, Louie, Louie (The Kingsmen version preferred) is a great drunken party song. Even Belushi partied to it! So next time you are partying, make sure Louie, Louie is one of the songs played.

3 Daily Songs: August 20th

I’m going to start a feature here where I suggest 3 rock songs to listen to every day. Here are today’s picks:

Styx - Blue Collar Man
Styx put out some great songs, and Blue Collar Man is one of their most underrated tunes. It just has that ‘feel good’ feeling to it. Check it out for youself.

The Lovin’ Spoonful - Summer in the City
Summer is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean you can’t listen to this great summer tune. Just don’t wear it out in the winter though.

The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
A solid song to just chill out to, Nights in White Satin is easily The Moody Blues’ best song. Put this on at night or something - you’ll love listening to it.
