The Doors Were Rock And Roll

And actually, they still are, considering their music is still listened to every day. However, their stint as a group was way too short, and Jim Morrison died, so that really didn’t help keep them alive.
Morrison WAS The Doors. He was the one that lighted the fire in the hearts of all the fans. His rebellious nature and appeal made his group more than just a couple guys playing music, he defined a lifestyle. People followed him because he was new, fresh, and just awesome.
Personally, I think their best song is ‘Break On Through’, or maybe ‘Light My Fire’, with ‘Touch Me’ as the runner up. Break On Through has such a cool sound to it, I don’t see how you can’t like that song. Also, when you think about it, this song was released in 1967. Imagine what it must’ve been like in that time period to hear such a hot new song. There were no computers, cell phones, or iPods back then. People either heard this song on the radio or bought the record, and The Doors music is a hell of a lot better than anything you get today.
They also have some slower, different style songs like ‘Riders on the Storm’ and ‘The End’. Actually, ‘Riders’ was used in an episode of The Wonder Years, where Kevin was having a bad dream and the song is playing in the background.
The best you’ll get these days of a Doors concert would be to head to YouTube and check out some of their past live performances. Without a doubt, you’ll be on there for hours checking out the awesome footage of Doors’ concerts in the late 60s.

The Doors were one of my favorite groups when I was in college. It would have been interesting to see what direction and evolution the Doors music would have experienced if they continued to make music later on through the 70s.
You could start to notice a difference in their style from their early work in the 60s, compared to what they were putting out in the early 70s. Then that was it… I guess we will never know.
Nirvana experienced a similar tragedy. Breakthrough band with everything going for them (at least musically), then the untimely death of the lead singer which destroyed the band.
Some bands are able to recover and replace the loss of the lead singer (death or quitting) and be fine, such as Van Halen’s changes on mic, Drowning Pool and some other notable bands.
The Doors and Nirvana are exceptions. Morrison and Cobain were the band and would be impossible to merely replace. Without the lead singer, the band is done.
