Listen to Three Dog Night
Aug 31, 2008 Bands
There are plenty of great rock and roll bands out there, but I think one of the most overlooked bands of all time is Three Dog Night. Their homepage states that from 1969 - 1974, no one sold more records than Three Dog Night. That truly is an amazing feat. I can only guess that Led Zeppelin took over from like 1974 - 1978, but I really have absolutely nothing to back that up.
Anyways, you’ve probably heard the songs ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘One’, but they have plenty of other great songs. I do love One, but also like songs like Celebrate, Shambala, Out in the Country, and The Show Must Go On. I find a lot of teenagers are liking music from the 60s and 70s these days, but for some reason none of them are listening to Three Dog Night. Does anyone know why this is? They really are a great band.
So, go download some of their music. Also, you can check out the Three Dog Night tour dates because they do still tour. I only saw them in concert once, and they really sounded great.
Music from Stillwater DOES Exist
Aug 26, 2008 Bands, Movies, Songs
You’ve probably watched Almost Famous. If you haven’t, watch it. The main band that is toured with, Stillwater, was actually a fictional band. However, if you truly want to rock out to Fever Dog, you can! Yes, that’s right, Stillwater music is available on LimeWire. Actually, it is available on the Almost Famous: Untitled Bootleg Cut if you want to buy that. There are 6 songs in total, but the best one is easily Fever Dog.
In reality, the music was written by Peter Frampton, Cameron Crowe and Nancy Wilson, and performed by Frampton (and I think Eddie Vedder), so you’ll probably like it.
I’m surprised this isn’t talked about much more, but it is really cool that they made some songs for the movie. Enjoy Fever Dog.
Jimi Hendrix: His Best 5
Jimi Hendrix is probably the best guitarist of all time. There is no doubt about that. In fact, you’ve probably heard some of his songs before, but still - some go unnoticed, or underrated. I’m here to clear up all the confusion, and lay out Jimi Hendrix’s best songs of all time.
5) The Wind Cries Mary
This one is a bit slower, but after listening to it for a few times you really start to get addicted to it. This won’t be the top song on your driving CD, but you can play it anytime and just chill out. This song shows his diversity as a musician.
4) Purple Haze
Some people call it his best, but personally I think there are 3 better. Definitely put this on your CD, but don’t think this is his greatest piece of work. However, it still is better than 99% of anything made today, but that’s another post, for another day.
3) Hey Joe
Hendrix closed Woodstock with Hey Joe, and that really isn’t surprising. This is another song like The Wind Cries Mary - it is just something to chill out to. Not his best, but still is one of the best 50 rock songs of all time.
2) Foxy Lady
Yes, that’s right - Foxy Lady comes in at #2. It is a little more fast-paced, you can throw it in your car and just cruise, or even blast it in your house. This song was used in The Wonder Years in one of the episodes, which is part of the reason why I think it is one of his best (I like songs that I can associate them with something else in my mind). But by now, you are probably thinking what the hell is #1? Well….
1) All Along the Watchtower
This is easily one of my favorite songs of all time, and one of the top rock songs of all time as well. Words really can’t describe this song, you just have to listen to it to understand the greatness. Hands down, Hendrix’s best song. No questions asked. It’s too bad he didn’t play this one at Woodstock.
