Zeppelin’s Achilles Last Stand

Pretty much everyone knows who Led Zeppelin is, and has heard Stairway to Heaven. I’ll agree that Stairway is a great song, but in all honesty I think Achilles Last Stand is Led Zeppelin’s best song. I mean, if you are looking for a solid classic rock song, this song is perfect.

It’s over 10 minutes long, and from the beginning guitar rift, you know it’s gonna be a good song. Honestly, I have no idea why this song isn’t as, if not more, popular than Stairway to Heaven. It was from one of their last albums, Presence, which was released in 1976. The drums are non-stop, Page plays what he calls his favorite guitar solo, and Plant is also incredible.

You’re in luck too. A performance of them live in 1979 is on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. It is definitely a bit different sounding than their studio version, but the way I see it, it’s like getting two incredible songs.

Definitely check this song out. I guarantee you you’ll be glad you did.

  1. Led Zeppelin Fan Says:

I have always been a huge Zeppelin fan. I grew up in the 60s and 70s so I got to hear a lot of their music when it was brand new. Here more than 30 years later I am still listening to Zeppelin
